Putting the 'Outing' Back in 'Scouting'
Pack 112 believes that scouting is a program best delivered outdoors. With that in mind, we plan at least four Pack camping trips every program year, and at least one Webelos camping trip on top of that. Many of our trips are designed around a fun and adventurous activity such as an airshow, wildlife refuge, or other event, which adds to the boy's (and parent's) excitement.
On top of these types of trips, Pack leaders plan rank appropriate games, activities, and other challenges for the boys to participate in. Some trips it's a game of touch football or ulitmate. Or perhaps we will teach the boys about maps and compasses. On many trips some of the adults will bring out a telescope so we can stargaze. We also recognize the value of the boys being boys in the woods, and we give them plenty of time to explore and entertain themselves.
Each camping trip has a Pack Meal, typically on Saturday night. The meal is something the boys can help prepare, and is provided by the Pack. Hamburgers, bear claws, chicken, baked potatoes, chili... we switch it up as much as possible and make sure that the entire Pack goes to bed stuffed. Don't forget the dutch oven cobbler!
Camping is always a highlight for the year, and everyone should try to make at least one trip.
Cub Scout Camping for Families
Is this your first trip camping with us? Have you got questions about the gear you need versus the stuff you don't? Then check out this presentation on how Pack 112 camps. You'll find some basic checklists, menu ideas, and gear suggestions. As always, if you have questions, let us know! Two versions of the presentation are presented below - Powerpoint and PDF. The contents are the same.

Need Help?
We're here. Pack 112 Leaders are always available to help you learn to pitch a tent, light a lantern, or use a stove. Just ask! We might also be able to scrounge up some gear you can borrow.
